University of Sahiwal and Government College Hold Awareness Sessions on Ending Violence Against Women

Sahiwal – An awareness session aimed at eliminating violence against women and girls was organized at the University of Sahiwal, bringing together key representatives from various fields. The session was chaired by Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Javed Akhtar, while Registrar Syed Ghulam Ali Asghar, Director Student Affairs Dr. Muhammad Waseem Tufail, Women Protection Officer Samira Shaheen, Law Officer Imran Shirazi, and Nazia Khan also attended.
During the session, Women Protection Officer Samira Shaheen delivered an extensive presentation on gender-based violence, the services offered at the Women Protection Centre, the Punjab Protection of Women Anti-Violence Act 2016 (amended 2021), and the vital role of the 1737 helpline. Her talk focused on empowering women through awareness and encouraging timely reporting of violence.
Later, a similar awareness session was held at Government Graduate College Sahiwal under the Department of History, as part of the global 16 Days of Activism campaign. District Women Protection Officer Fauzia Jabeen and Women Protection Officer Samira Shaheen addressed the participants as keynote speakers. They discussed women protection laws, different forms of digital violence, and government initiatives to curb such crimes.
At the end of the event, Principal Government Graduate College Sahiwal, Professor Mumtaz Ahmad, appreciated the efforts of Women Protection Officer Samira Shaheen and presented her with a certificate of recognition.
Both institutions termed these awareness activities an important milestone in promoting women’s rights, protection, and public awareness across the district.
