Sahiwal: Deputy Commissioner Raids Govt Girls College, Seizes Attendance Registers

SAHIWAL (News Desk) – The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Sahiwal conducted a surprise raid at the Government Girls College early yesterday morning, seizing faculty attendance registers due to the alleged absence of professors and lecturers. The move has sparked a heated standoff between the district administration and the academic community.
The Early Morning Raid
According to details, the Deputy Commissioner arrived at the Principal’s office of the Women’s College before 9:00 AM to personally inspect the punctuality of the teaching staff. Upon inspection, it was reported that not a single lecturer or professor had arrived for duty by that time.
As the staff began arriving after 9:00 AM, they found themselves unable to mark their attendance as the DC had already taken the registers into his custody. Despite the administrative tension, the faculty proceeded to their respective classrooms to commence the day’s academic sessions.
Failed Reconciliation
The Deputy Commissioner later extended his inspection to the Government Post Graduate College Sahiwal. Following the incident, the Director of Colleges Sahiwal, Professor Andleeb, accompanied by the Principal of the Girls College, Sumaira, visited the DC’s office to resolve the matter. However, the Deputy Commissioner reportedly refused to meet the officials or return the seized registers.
PPLA Threatens Province-Wide Strike
The Punjab Lecturers and Professors Association (PPLA) has reacted strongly to the incident, categorizing the DC’s actions as a “misuse of authority.”
In an emergency statement, the association representatives demanded that higher authorities take immediate notice of this “overstepping of powers.” They warned that if the grievance is not addressed, the PPLA will issue a call for a province-wide strike and protests, stating that the government would be held responsible for any resulting disruption to the education system.
