Chichawatni: Man Arrested After Video of Brutal Assault on Woman Goes Viral

CHICHAWATNI – Following widespread outrage on social media, Sahiwal Police have arrested a man caught on camera mercilessly assaulting a woman in the Kassowal police jurisdiction.

The Incident

The disturbing incident took place in Village 6/14-L, a suburban area of Chichawatni. A video that surfaced online shows an influential individual identified as the primary suspect, dragging a woman named Najma Bibi by her hair and beating her publicly.

Despite the victim approaching the police immediately after the assault, she alleged that an FIR was not registered for over 24 hours. Najma Bibi claimed that the suspects used their influence to pressure her into withdrawing the application, issuing continuous threats to her safety.

Administrative Response

The delay in police action initially raised concerns regarding law enforcement’s commitment to protecting women’s rights, a key priority of the Punjab Government. However, as the video gained traction and sparked public outcry, DPO Sahiwal, Mohammad Usman Tippu, took formal notice of the event.

Under the DPO’s directives, the SHO of Kassowal Police Station launched a targeted operation, successfully apprehending the central suspect.

Police Statement

A spokesperson for the Sahiwal Police confirmed the arrest, stating that the law applies equally to everyone regardless of their social standing.

“No one is above the law. As soon as the video came to light, the suspect was identified and taken into custody. Severe legal action is being initiated against him.”

Seeking Justice

While the victim’s family had previously appealed to the RPO and DPO Sahiwal for protection and justice, they have expressed slight relief following the arrest. Police officials have assured the public that further investigations are underway and that every effort will be made to ensure the victim receives justice.

Local citizens have commended the swift arrest following the DPO’s intervention but continue to demand long-term measures to prevent such acts of violence against women in the region.
