University of Sahiwal and SNGPL Join Forces for Major “Green Campus” Initiative

SAHIWAL – In a significant move toward environmental sustainability, the University of Sahiwal formally entered into a partnership with Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) yesterday, February 24, 2026. The collaboration, solidified through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marks the launch of a comprehensive CSR-funded Tree Plantation Project aimed at transforming the university’s ecological footprint.
A Greener Future Through Collaboration
Under the terms of the agreement, SNGPL has provided a PKR 750,000 Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) grant. These funds are earmarked specifically for extensive plantation drives and professional landscaping across the university grounds.
The initiative is designed to:
Enhance Biodiversity: Introducing native flora to support local ecosystems.
Improve Air Quality: Creating a natural “green lung” for the campus community.
Foster Sustainability: Encouraging a culture of environmental stewardship among students and faculty.
The Formal Signing
The MoU was officially signed at the Vice Chancellor’s Office. Representing the university was Prof. Dr. Javaid Akhtar, Vice Chancellor of the University of Sahiwal, alongside Mr. Bilal Ahmad, Executive Engineer at SNGPL.
During the ceremony, both leaders emphasized that this partnership transcends simple gardening; it represents a shared vision for academia-industry synergy in the face of global climate challenges.
“This project will leave a lasting positive impact on our campus and its stakeholders. We are taking meaningful steps toward a more sustainable future,” a university representative stated.
Impact and Vision
Beyond the immediate aesthetic improvements, the project serves as a living laboratory for environmental awareness. By expanding green spaces, the University of Sahiwal and SNGPL aim to provide a healthier academic environment that promotes well-being and highlights the importance of community-centered development.
The university expressed its deep gratitude to SNGPL for its investment in the region’s youth and environment, noting that such collaborations are vital for addressing pressing ecological issues in modern education.
