Father, Daughter Killed in Roof Collapse Amid Heavy Rain in Sahiwal

SAHIWAL – A tragic accident claimed the lives of a father and his teenage daughter after the roof of a livestock shed collapsed during heavy rainfall in Village 103/7-R, near Sahiwal.
The Incident
According to reports, the victims—identified as Abdul Rashid and his 15-year-old daughter, Sana—were residents of Harappa. The incident occurred on Thursday night during a period of torrential rain. The duo was reportedly rushing to move their cattle from an open field into the shelter of a shed when the structure suddenly gave way, burying them under the debris.
Casualties and Emergency Response
Rescue sources confirmed the following details regarding the casualties:
Sana (15): Sadly passed away at the scene due to the severity of her injuries.
Abdul Rashid: Was pulled from the rubble and rushed to the Rural Health Centre (RHC) Harappa, but succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.
Widespread Power Outages and Public Outery
The storm, characterized by intense lightning and thunder, wreaked havoc on the local power grid. Areas including Kassowal, Noor Shah, Kameer, Shah Kot, and Qadirabad faced significant disruptions.
Due to damage sustained by the Shah Murad feeder, several villages across Harappa and Chichawatni remained without electricity for approximately 20 hours. Local residents held protests against the Multan Electric Power Company (MEPCO), criticizing the staff for the prolonged delay in restoring power.
Official Visit
Deputy Commissioner Sahiwal, Captain (R) Samiullah Farooq, visited the site of the tragedy to oversee the situation. He met with the bereaved family to offer his condolences and expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life.
