Police Raid Sahiwal Wedding Over Illegal Dance Performance; 4 Arrested, 20 Booked

SAHIWAL – A wedding celebration in the suburban area of Chak 82/6-R turned into a legal nightmare after police raided the event for hosting an illegal dance performance (mujra) and playing obscene recordings. The operation resulted in the arrest of three youths and a female performer, while several others managed to escape.
Details of the Incident
According to the Bureau Report, the festivities crossed legal and ethical boundaries when organizers set up a stage on a blocked public road. The event featured semi-clad dancers performing to loud, provocative music.
Upon receiving a tip-off, a police team arrived at the scene to find:
Illegal Infrastructure: A formal stage equipped with heavy lighting, obstructing public passage.
Currency Showering: Guests were reportedly showering banknotes on the performers.
Resistance to Authority: When officers attempted to intervene, the attendees turned aggressive, leading to a scuffle and interference with official duties. The situation escalated to the point where additional police reinforcements were summoned to regain control.
Arrests and Recoveries
During the raid, the police managed to take the following individuals into custody:
Saleem Khaliq (Youth)
Saleem Majeed (Youth)
Muhammad Zeeshan (Youth)
Ayesha Aamir (Dancer – apprehended by lady police officers)
Authorities also recovered Rs. 32,000 in cash that had been showered during the performance. However, ten named suspects—including Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Ashraf, and Nadeem—along with three other dancers, took advantage of the darkness and fled the scene.
Legal Action
The Fateh Sher Police Station has registered a formal case against 20 individuals on the complaint of Sub-Inspector Khaliq Riaz. The suspects face several serious charges under the Pakistan Penal Code and local regulations:
