Chichawatni: Husband Booked for Domestic Violence and Sexual Harassment

CHICHAWATNI – The Chichawatni police have registered a formal case against a local man following grave allegations of domestic violence, intimidation, and sexual harassment filed by his wife.
Case Background
The complainant, 30-year-old Maryam Bibi—a paramedic and resident of Lahore—detailed the harrowing ordeal in a First Information Report (FIR). Maryam married 47-year-old Rizwan Shahzad, a private school teacher residing in Chak No. 8, Chichawatni, in 2016. The couple has two children.
According to the victim’s statement:
Systematic Abuse: She has been subjected to regular physical and mental torture since the beginning of the marriage.
History of Violence: In 2024, a case was previously registered against Rizwan after he allegedly broke Maryam’s nose. However, a reconciliation was brokered at the time by the suspect’s maternal uncle, Maqbool Khan.
Extramarital Affairs: Maryam alleged that her husband maintains illicit relationships with other women and has consistently barred her from pursuing her professional career.
Grave Allegations of Harassment
The victim further disclosed a disturbing pattern of exploitation involving her husband’s uncle. Maryam claimed that Maqbool Khan attempted to sexually harass her, and that Rizwan pressured her to respond to his uncle’s advances.
When she refused, she was reportedly:
Subjected to severe physical violence.
Confined to her home against her will.
Forcibly stopped from working at a private hospital.
Furthermore, Maryam alleged that Rizwan sent other men to their home to coerce her into “inappropriate relationships.” Fearing for her life due to persistent death threats from both her husband and his uncle, she has fled her home and sought refuge in a paramedics’ hostel.
Police Action
On April 13, Chichawatni police officially registered a case against Rizwan Shahzad and Maqbool Khan. City SHO Qamar Abbas stated that an investigation is currently underway, and legal proceedings against the accused are being processed.
