How many divisions and districts are in Sindh Province?

KARACHI: In a continuous effort to decentralize power and improve service delivery to its citizens, the Government of Sindh has reinforced its administrative structure through a well-defined system of divisions and districts. As of 2026, the province is managed through seven key divisions, each tailored to address specific regional needs ranging from industrial hubs to agricultural heartlands.
The Hubs of Northern and Central Sindh
The northern belt remains anchored by the Sukkur and Larkana Divisions. Sukkur, famous for its historic barrage, manages the districts of Ghotki, Sukkur, and Khairpur. Meanwhile, Larkana continues to oversee five districts—Kashmore, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Larkana, and Qambar Shahdadkot—maintaining its status as a region of immense historical and political significance.
In the center of the province, the Shaheed Benazirabad Division (formerly Nawabshah) plays a pivotal role. Comprising Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, and Shaheed Benazirabad districts, this division was formally established in 2014 to reduce the administrative burden on Hyderabad and Sukkur.
Southern Economic and Coastal Powerhouses
Karachi Division remains the administrative and economic crown jewel of the province. With seven districts—East, West, Central, South, Malir, Korangi, and Keamari—it manages the complex needs of Pakistan’s largest city.
To the east, the Mirpurkhas Division remains the center of Pakistan’s mango production and the gateway to the Thar desert, overseeing Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, and Tharparkar.
The Reorganization of Hyderabad and the Rise of Banbhore
One of the most significant shifts in recent years has been the reorganization of the Hyderabad Division. While it remains a key cultural center managing Matiari, Jamshoro, Hyderabad, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, and Badin, its coastal districts were moved to create the Banbhore Division.
The creation of the Banbhore Division (headquartered in Thatta) focuses specifically on the coastal belt, including the districts of Thatta and Sujawal, ensuring that the unique challenges of the deltaic region are met with localized governance.
Fact Check: The “Nawabshah” Status
For those seeking clarity on the “Nawabshah Division,” official records confirm that the name was retired in favor of Shaheed Benazirabad in 2008 for the district, and the division was formally notified under this name in 2014. While the city is still colloquially referred to by its old name, the division is officially recognized as Shaheed Benazirabad in all government and revenue frameworks.
