Chichawatni–Kamalia Ravi River Bridge Shut Amid Rising Floodwaters

The Ravi River bridge from Chichawatni to Kamalia has been closed among rising floodwaters near Old Chichawatni.

Kamalia Khan Da Chak Adda Kalera Road has completely collapsed and been washed away by floodwaters. Chak No. 732 G.B. is currently entirely engulfed by flood currents, where water levels have reached approximately 4 to 5 feet.

An area spanning seven kilometers along Sher Shah Suri Road is now submerged, and water has entered hundreds of homes. The Government High School in Old Chichawatni is also underwater.

At the Ravi River bridge point, the water outflow has exceeded 200,000 cusecs. There is a risk of an extremely high-level flood in the Ravi River within the next 24 hours.

The Assistant Commissioner has ordered the complete evacuation of areas adjacent to the Ravi river. All concerned departments are on high alert to deal with the potential extreme flooding.

“All available resources will be utilized to protect the public from the flood,” said the Assistant Commissioner of Chichawatni. Emergency response teams have been directed to carry out rescue and relief operations proactively, the Assistant Commissioner added. “The safety of people’s lives and property is the administration’s top priority.”
