DC Sahiwal Inspects Chichawatni Drainage Projects; Orders Completion Before Monsoon

CHICHAWATNI: Deputy Commissioner Sahiwal, Captain (R) Samiullah Farooq, conducted a detailed visit to the Chichawatni Municipal Committee to review ongoing development projects under the Punjab Development Program. The primary focus of the visit was to assess the progress of critical rainwater drainage and storage infrastructure.
Inspection of Underground Water Storage
During the visit, the Deputy Commissioner inspected several key sites, including:
Ponding Areas: Newly constructed zones designed to manage water runoff.
Water Drains: The network intended to divert rainwater from residential streets.
Mega Storage Tank: A massive underground water storage tank with a capacity of 900,000 gallons.
Strict Directives for Monsoon Readiness
DC Samiullah Farooq issued categorical instructions to the relevant officers to accelerate the pace of work. He emphasized that all construction must be completed before the onset of the monsoon season to prevent urban flooding and ensure that rainwater is safely stored rather than wasted.
Focus on Quality and Infrastructure
The Deputy Commissioner stated that the provincial government is prioritizing urban infrastructure to provide long-term relief to citizens.
“There will be no compromise on the quality of work,” he remarked. “Continuous monitoring of every phase is essential to ensure these projects effectively mitigate the risks of future urban flooding.”
Technical Briefing
Assistant Commissioner Chichawatni Javed Mumtaz and Municipal Officer Rizwan Marth accompanied the Deputy Commissioner during the inspection. They provided a comprehensive briefing on the current technical progress and the remaining milestones of the project.
