Chichawatni: Notorious Drug Peddler Arrested After Police Encounter in Shahkot

CHICHAWATNI (Spokesperson, Sahiwal Police) – Under the leadership of DPO Sahiwal Muhammad Usman Tippu, the Sahiwal Police have intensified their crackdown on narcotics. In a late-night encounter within the jurisdiction of Shahkot Police Station, a high-profile drug peddler was apprehended in injured condition, while his accomplices managed to escape under the cover of darkness.

The operation marks a significant blow to the local drug supply chain, resulting in the recovery of substantial contraband and illegal weaponry.

Incident Details and Tactical Response

Acting on a tip-off from a confidential informant, Shahkot Police were alerted to the presence of 2–3 suspicious individuals near the 90/12L Stop, allegedly positioned to distribute a large quantity of narcotics.

Responding swiftly, SHO Shahkot Inspector Noreez Abbas led a police team to the site. Upon spotting the police party, the suspects opened fire and attempted to hide within nearby crops and orchard wells.

The Encounter and Arrest

The police returned fire in self-defense. Once the exchange of fire subsided, a search operation using high-intensity lights revealed one suspect lying injured on the ground. He was identified as Mazhar Iqbal, son of Nazir Ahmed (resident of 20/14L), a notorious record-holder wanted in multiple cases.

According to police sources, the suspect was hit by firing initiated by his own fleeing accomplices.

Recoveries and Legal Action

The police seized the following items from the arrested individual:

  • Hashish (Chars): 1.5 Kilograms

  • Weaponry: One 30-bore pistol

The injured suspect was immediately shifted to the hospital for medical treatment, while a search operation remains underway in the surrounding areas to track down the escaped accomplices.
