Sahiwal Police Arrest Four, Including Political Official, for Illegal Arms Display

SAHIWAL (January 12, 2026): In a swift crackdown on the public exhibition of weapons, the Sahiwal police arrested four young men, including a local office-bearer of a prominent political party, during multiple operations across the district over the last 24 hours.
The arrests are part of an intensified campaign by Punjab Police to curb “gun culture” and ensure public safety in busy bazaars and residential neighborhoods.
High-Profile Arrests
According to police reports, Shahbaz Ali Minhas, an office-bearer for the PML-N, was apprehended by the Ghala Mandi Police at the Eastern Bypass. Authorities recovered a 12-bore double-barrel gun, a 32-bore revolver, and a cache of ammunition which he was allegedly displaying in public.
In a separate incident at Chak 87/9-L, the police took Imtiaz Ali Shaikh into custody. He is accused of brandishing an illegal 32-bore pistol and using it to harass and threaten his neighbors.
Aerial Firing and Illegal Possession
The City Police also reported the arrest of Muhammad Usman, who was found in possession of an illegal pump-action gun. Witnesses claimed Usman was not only displaying the weapon with live rounds but also engaged in dangerous aerial firing, causing panic in the area.
Additionally, Muhammad Saleem was arrested by the Fateh Sher Police for openly carrying and exhibiting a 30-bore pistol and bullets.
Legal Action
District authorities have confirmed that all four suspects have been formally booked under Sections 13A(2) and 11-B of the Arms Ordinance.
“There is zero tolerance for the display of illegal arms. No one, regardless of their political affiliation, is above the law when it comes to the safety of our citizens,” stated a senior police official.
The police have urged citizens to report any instances of weapon brandishing or aerial firing to the local emergency helplines as the crackdown continues.
