Maldivian National Among Four Arrested in Drug Case in Pakpattan

Pakpattan (Sahiwal News): Pakpattan police have arrested a Maldivian national along with three local men in connection with drug trafficking and a kidnapping-for-ransom case. Two separate FIRs have been registered against the suspects at Faridnagar Police Station.
The first FIR (No. 1113/25) was filed against three local youths from Pakpattan — Bilal, Imran, and Kamran — who allegedly kidnapped Jamil Ali on November 16 and attempted to extort a ransom. This case was registered under Section 365A of the Pakistan Penal Code.
The second FIR (No. 1115/25) was filed against Jamil Ali following a complaint by Muhammad Afzal. This FIR was registered under Section 9-(1)6a of the Control of Narcotic Substances Act, 1997, accusing him of selling and trafficking drugs.
District Police Officer (DPO) Javed Chadhar stated that all four suspects were involved in drug trafficking and had a dispute over the handling of drug-related money.
DPO Chadhar added that Jamil’s Pakistani associates kidnapped him and held him at an undisclosed location for 36 days, demanding a ransom of $36,000 for his release.
After Jamil’s recovery, police found heroin in his travel bag, leading to his arrest on drug charges.
Jamil Ali was sent on judicial remand, while the special judge of the Anti-Terrorism Court granted a five-day judicial remand to the three Pakpattan suspects accused of kidnapping and extortion. The judge instructed Faridnagar police to present the suspects in court again on December 29.
According to the police report, Jamil Ali, son of Ali Rasheed (Passport No. A41E6432), arrived in Pakistan from the Maldives on November 10, 2025. He initially stayed at a hotel in Lahore and later moved to another hotel, where he met Bilal, Kamran, and Imran, residents of Pakpattan.
All the individuals reportedly shared an interest in drug trafficking. On their invitation, Jamil visited Pakpattan, where he was allegedly kidnapped.
The FIR states that the suspects demanded $36,000 as ransom, which Jamil refused to pay. Subsequently, he was held captive at an undisclosed location. Later, he managed to escape and contacted the police in Arifwala.
Acting on this information, the police conducted a raid and arrested the three suspects. During the search of their luggage, heroin was recovered, resulting in the registration of a drug-related case.
DPO Javed Chadhar stated that investigations are ongoing and expressed hope that more details about drug trafficking will be uncovered. Police suspect that Jamil Ali may be connected to an international drug racket.
