Case Registered in Sahiwal Over Alleged Desecration of the Holy Quran

Sahiwal: Police in Sahiwal have registered a case against a man accused of deliberately desecrating the Holy Quran in a village within the jurisdiction of Dera Rahim Police Station Sahiwal.

Incident Details

According to the police report, the incident occurred on Tuesday in village 9-L/108. A local resident, Shaukat, informed the police via the emergency helpline (15) that a 30-year-old laborer, identified as “K” (name withheld), had committed an act of desecration.

Police teams rushed to the scene immediately after receiving the call.

Eyewitness Accounts

The imam of the village mosque, Faiz Rasool, along with other eyewitnesses, stated that:

  • The suspect entered the mosque during Zuhr prayers.
  • He picked up a copy of the Holy Quran and later threw it into a nearby dirty water drain close to his house.
  • Villagers also alleged that the accused threw stones at the sacred book.

Police Action and Arrest

An angry crowd present at the scene managed to apprehend the suspect before police arrived. Local residents, including Ali Hassan, retrieved the copy of the Holy Quran from the drain, dried it, and handed it over to the police as evidence.

Station House Officer (SHO) Subah Sadiq confirmed that police brought the situation under control and took the suspect into custody. Some unverified reports suggest that the accused may be a drug addict.

Legal Proceedings

A case has been registered against the suspect under Section 295-B of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of SHO Subah Sadiq.

The accused was presented before Judicial Magistrate Akbar Ali, who remanded him to judicial custody and sent him to Sahiwal Central Jail.
