Sahiwal: Woman Set Ablaze by Husband Over Domestic Dispute; Condition Critical

SAHIWAL – A horrific incident of domestic violence occurred in the early hours of Thursday in the Johar Town area, where a man allegedly doused his wife with petrol and set her on fire following a minor argument.

Background of Domestic Strife

According to police reports, the suspect, Arshad, a resident of Street No. 3, Johar Town, has been married to Somia Bibi for approximately a decade. Arshad, who runs a second-hand clothing stall at the local Model Bazaar, reportedly had a history of strained relations with his wife.

The Incident

The situation escalated tragically on Thursday morning when a fresh quarrel broke out between the couple. In a fit of rage, Arshad allegedly poured petrol on Somia and set her alight.

The victim’s sister, Marwa Bibi, alerted the authorities by calling the 15 police helpline. By the time a team from the Ghala Mandi Police Station arrived at the residence, the suspect had already fled the scene.

Medical Emergency

Rescue 1122 officials stated that the victim sustained life-threatening third-degree burns across her entire body. She was initially rushed to the Sahiwal Teaching Hospital. Due to the severity of her injuries and her deteriorating condition, doctors referred her to the specialized burns unit at Allied Hospital, Faisalabad.
