Sajjad Mehdi, Son of Legendary Ghazal Singer Mehdi Hassan, Passes Away

LAHORE – Sajjad Mehdi, the son of the world-renowned “King of Ghazal” Ustad Mehdi Hassan, passed away following a cardiac arrest.
According to his family members, Sajjad Mehdi suffered a sudden heart attack and was immediately rushed to a local hospital. Despite receiving urgent medical treatment, he could not be resuscitated and breathed his last.
A Legacy of Service
Beyond his familial connection to the music legend, Sajjad Mehdi carved out a distinguished career in public service. He served as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) within the Police Department. He was widely respected by his colleagues and the public for his professional integrity, dedication, and commitment to community service.
Funeral Arrangements
The family has announced that the funeral prayers (Namaz-e-Janaza) will be offered today in Lahore following the Zuhr prayers. Relatives and well-wishers have requested prayers for the departed soul’s eternal peace.

Sajjad’s father, Ustad Mehdi Hassan, remains one of the most influential figures in classical and ghazal singing, with a legacy celebrated globally.
The family traces its roots back to Chak 111/7R, Chichawatni, where Ustad Mehdi Hassan famously ran a bicycle and tire repair shop before his rise to international stardom. Today, the extended family remains settled across Chichawatni, Karachi, and Lahore.
